"Break My Eye Again" is a song by American singer-songwriter Finneas. It was released by OYOY for digital download and streaming as a single on February 9, 2018. The song was after included on the deluxe edition of Finneas' debut EP, Blood Harmony (2019). An indie pop ballad, the song's lyrics address Finneas breaking up with his girlfriend through on and off texting. The vocal received mainly positive reviews from music critics, several of whom praised the music and lyrical content.

An accompanying one-take music video was released on April xviii, 2019, and was directed by Sam Bennett. In it, the camera moves around Finneas equally he sings about losing his loved 1. The video received positive reviews from critics, many of whom praised its theme. Finneas performed "Suspension My Middle Again" every bit role of a 50-infinitesimal livestream for Verizon Communications in April 2020.

The audio of typing and sending letters is heard for the majority of the vocal: "Hey you/I'm only now leaving/Can I come around/Afterward on this night?/Or exercise/You need fourth dimension?/Yes of course/That's fine."[4] [7] The lyrics of "Break My Heart Again" are most entirely composed of existent texts between Finneas and a former lover.[viii] [ix] Finneas explained the texting in a statement: "The lyrics in the verses are basically verbatim text conversations I had with an ex-girlfriend. I thought it'd be cool to double illustrate that signal and so I added text and typing sounds to the production."[7] Every bit the chorus begins, Finneas switches from talking about his interactions with his loved one to admitting his strong emotions and Finneas' voice starts to become layered.[4]

Finneas confesses to being constantly injure by the ane he cares well-nigh. He then admits it gets to a point where he'southward thinking his loved one is wrong for constantly hurting him. Finneas goes on to realize that he may be wrong for ever allowing the former to injure him, "So go ahead and break my heart again/Exit me wonderin' why the hell I e'er permit you in/Are you the definition of insanity?/Or am I? Oh, it must be nice/To dear someone who lets you intermission them twice."[4] The bridge suggests that the vocalist is confronting his lover almost their issues. Finneas is pressured every bit he admits that he thought his lover was "the ane", but their actions revealed that all they can do is break up and their human relationship is over for good.[4] Finneas and so reveals they reunited five years later, and the vocal temporarily comes to a stop. The song starts over once again, featuring piano and Finneas' vocals. He confesses that fifty-fifty though time has passed, his ex-lover is even so the same. The chorus is then repeated, and stripped dorsum heavier.[four]

Critical reception [edit]

"Interruption My Heart Once more" was met with mainly positive reviews from music critics. Kasey Caminiti, writing for DuJour, labeled the vocal as "soft" and "relatable", while further mentioning that it "highlight[s] the insanity of millennial beloved stories".[7] Tanis Smither of Earmilk described the vocal as "raw" and "startlingly honest".[eight] Music Connectedness 's Dan Kimpel commended the lyrical content and melody of the song, which he viewed equally "gorgeous".[9] For Atwood Magazine, Nicole Almeida cited the track as a "soothing song for the brokenhearted" and stated that it is "proof of [Finneas'] supreme supreme talent".[4] Shaad D'Souza of Paper magazine stated that "Break My Eye Again" is a "traditional-sounding carol", and complimented the "masterful production piece of work" while opining that the listeners should "stay for the twists".[6]

Music video and promotion [edit]

A music video for "Suspension My Heart Over again" was uploaded to Finneas' YouTube aqueduct on Apr 18, 2019.[10] The video was directed past Sam Bennett and choreographed by Monika Felice Smith, while it was shot in 1 blackness and white have.[ten] In the visual, the camera revolves around Finneas as he sings, "So become ahead and break my eye again/Get out me wondering/why the hell I always let yous in/Are you the definition of insanity?/Or am I?/Oh, information technology must be nice/To love someone/Who lets yous break them twice."[viii] The music video was positively received by critics upon its release. Smither described the visual as a "monochromatic canvas".[eight] Writing for Alternative Press, Alex Darus called the video a "heart-wrenching black and white video that actually put united states of america in our feels".[x] In April 2020, Finneas "performed "Intermission My Eye Again" live during a 50-minute livestream for Verizon Communications.[11]
